You can read the introduction to an excellent book on this here. Do not worry if it is heavy going. It will be enough to scan it and absorb the main gist - that Tacitus and his predecessors (Cicero, Virgil, Ovid, Pliny) would have been well-versed in Greek Tragedy and that its influence is definitely in evidence.
